Production Capacity Upgrade for a Residential Window Project (Mexico)

Mexico
Date: October 2023

Project Background

The client is a medium-sized architectural glazing company based in Querétaro, specializing in high-end residential window systems. In late 2023, they secured a contract for a 120-unit luxury apartment complex. Their existing manual cutting equipment was unable to meet the required daily output, and the inconsistency in 45-degree miter joints was leading to excessive material waste during the assembly of thermal-break aluminum frames.

Technical Challenges

The project required high-precision cutting for various profile thicknesses. The primary challenge was maintaining a tolerance of less than ±0.2mm on 45-degree angles to ensure seamless corner joining. Additionally, the client’s operators were accustomed to manual machinery and required a smooth transition to semi-automated CNC equipment without halting their existing production schedule.

Our Role and Value

Zelatec provided not just the hardware, but a localized technical integration plan:

  • Equipment Calibration: We supplied the Double Head Precision Cutting Saw equipped with high-precision linear guide pairs and carbide saw blades. Before shipment, the machine was calibrated specifically for the thermal-break profiles provided by the client to ensure the cutting finish required no further processing.
  • Remote Technical Integration: Due to the project’s tight schedule, our engineers provided a step-by-step video installation guide and real-time remote training for the local team. We focused on teaching the operators how to adjust the cutting length and angle digitally to minimize human error.
  • Efficiency Optimization: We optimized the blade feeding speed settings to balance cutting cleanliness with blade longevity, which is crucial for maintaining low operational costs in the Mexican market.

Project Outcome

Within two weeks of installation, the client reported a 40% increase in daily frame production. The precision of the 45-degree cuts significantly reduced the time spent on the corner-combining process, and the material scrap rate dropped by approximately 15%. This improvement allowed the client to meet their delivery milestones for the apartment complex ahead of schedule.
